Plenty to do, and this is my view. I have been working on a roof rack for my scoob. A few pix below. I wanted something that was a little more in sync with the design of the car. Most standard racks look uhhh... utilitarian, IMO. They are also too big and bulky. I don’t have a rack fetish, unlike a lot of Subarinos. I just want something that I can haul steel with and maybe some other stuff, but I don’t want a giant top hat to match my stancypants.
Normally, I wouldn’t post an image of anything until it’s done, but here we are, mid-stride:
I should be finished in a week or two, assuming I don't run off to China on a whim.

Nice work, what colour are you painting/ coating them? Body colour might be cool for a really stealthy look.

That is bad ass! How are you mounting it?

The problem with body color, in this context, is that I really am going to be carrying steel stock on this. It will get very dirty, indeed. So, as much as I like things to be dirty, I am going to paint it the same metallic grey that I am painting my wheels. More on that later;)

Thankya kindly. I’m fabbing a clip that pinches the rail. A little annoying to do, but the lion’s share of the hardware won’t be visible from outside the rail.

Dat title doe

That works too if it matches the wheels. Definitely an improvement over an off the shelf rack.

All I see when I look at those racks is giant knuckles and knees and elbows connecting everything as if no one ever looked at the car they were going onto before designing them. No matter how bad this looks in the end, it will still be better than that stuff.

Agreed, the bars suggested for my car don’t look fantastic due to the massive mounts etc.

So awesome, that’s quality looking work.

It’s great, except that it’s an automatic and drives like a bar of soap. This was our baby car, so it needed to be drivable by both of us in a possible emergency. That portion of our lives is behind us, so I will eventually swap out the tranny.
The size of this car is perfect and there is so much that can be done to it. I’m changing the suspension out for a WRX’s and picking up some new tires starting next week so it will be a lot more precise. No more soap.
I love this car. We bought it new and have had it for sixish years, so far. I'm keeping it forever.

Those things can still look good, I would just rather do my own thing that looks “designed” as opposed to “engineered”.

Cool. I want something bigger than my Golf R (and something cheaper). So I might keep a lookout for 5MT XT Sports. I know they’re rare, but I like owning a unicorn

I actually bought a Ford Flex (2013) because I needed a bit more room, but I got sick of its heft and electronic complexity. I took a look at both of my cars and said goodbye to the Flex. It was a good car but the scoob is a great car.

I wish it had been... how intelligent I would have seemed. Nope. I don’t remember a word of his writings; I just go to China a lot.

And I’ve never read him, I just heard he tried to run off to China on a whim when he was in college. :D
I’d love to go someday.

Well, who knows? Maybe I have that lodged in my head somewhere, subconsciously. But I do go there a lot;)
